windrush group green investment madness
In what looks like a crazy bid to enhance their ‘green’ credentials, design and print company Windrush have invested almost £500,000 in new equipment to make them more effiicient and improve their environmental credentials.
It seems a bold step, in these times, to invest so heavily so, as usual, the Waffler team felt compelled to investigate.
We uncovered a computer-to-plate system that has eradicated the need for harmful chemical use, hidden away in a back room. Fair enough we thought. Makes sense.
Then we discovered a new £400,000 5 colour press printing away downstairs without a care in the world. ‘Are they mad?’ we thought. ‘It’s all about improving our efficiency and capacity. That’s what makes you greener in the end.’ Production manager David Hyde explained. ‘Are they mad?’ we thought..again. To be fair he didn’t sound all that mad, but he was wearing pink Marigolds, flippers and a cashmere balaclava, so you have to wonder a little bit. It does all make sense though, so we conclude that David has to be some sort of new style guru.
